Laguage Club - 2012-13

22nd January:-‘English workshop’

Mrs Tasneem attended a workshop on ‘English subject’ organized by Ratna SagarPublication at Vile Parle. It emphasized basically on the language developmentin both students and teachers.

3rd and 4th February:Workshop on ‘Acting Skills’

Mrs. Parveen Shaikh and Miss Hania Choudhary attended a workshop at Begum Jamila Versova at Andheri along with six of our students. The workshop was basically on ‘Acting Skills’. The students were made to do Gymnastics, Dumb Talking and Scarf Technique. On the first day they were trained and on the second day they were made to perform.

6th and 7th August - Professional Development Workshop

Ms. Nazneen Khan and Ms.Saba Dadan attended a ‘Teacher’s Professional Development Workshop’ in Theatre at Hans's Raj Morarji Public School at Andheri organized by the British Council .British Council in association with Trestle Theatre and Trinity College, UK presented this workshop to prepare and inspire teachers to create short physical storytelling pieces with children, influenced by ‘The Snow Queen Production’ touring India in August 2012.The workshop was led by Ms Emily Gray, Trestle's Artistic Director and Chief Executive. Day one focused on mask, physical theatre and non-text-based approaches to creating dramatic narrative. On day two, some of these techniques were further explored, with practical suggestions on how they might be applied in classroom settings to create short plays, based on existing tales and myths. The aim was to engage teachers from arts subjects in creative play, in order to develop their skills in devising plays from physical and visual inspiration. With the help of Trestle masks as an educational tool, the teachers learnt to explore exercises and games that can be passed directly onto pupils or readily adapted to suit their needs. The workshop guided the teachers in their professional development and taught them the skills required for teaching through creativity.

11th December Workshop by Black Swan.

 Mrs.Tasneem and Mrs. Shazia attended a workshop organized by ‘Black Swan’.The resourse person Mrs. Arpita Baneerjee taught the teachers to use various technique on how one can teach grammereffectively in the classroom.

On 5th, 6th & 7th January:-

Expert Lecture was conducted by Miss Lousia and Zubair Sir pertaining to History and English.

15th February 2012: Elocution Competition

The Florrie Sopher Inter School Elocution Competition was held at E.E.E. Sassoon High School. There were two groups, senior group and junior group. The Competition was held to expose the potential in public speaking & give them the opportunity to express themselves. The Participants were awarded with the Certificate of Participation.

Spell linc competition

It is proud to inform that three of our students i.e.Qureshi Javeria Athar and Ansar Shariah of Std IX A and Khan Amina Arif of Std VII A have reached the grand finale of Spell Linc Competition which was held on 19 Dec, 2012. 

Inter Anjuman Activities

17TH July – Inter- Anjuman Essay Writing Competition for students

Inter -Anjuman Essay and Hand Writing Competition were held at A.I’s Badruddin Tyabji, C.S.T.for STD V-IX.There were three groups in Essay Writing Competition and it was judged on organization, creativity, and writing. Hand Writing Competition was in all four languages.

27th September Inter Anjuman Debate competition

Inter- Anjuman Debate Competition was held at Versova Anjuman and the topic was “Does Social Networking Site Help in improving Social Interaction? ’’ Two teams from each school had participated and were allowed to speak on both pros and cons respectively. The opposite team was decided by a draw system. It was a matter of great pride to see our young students speak so effectively about their topic and their sense of deeper understanding towards current social issues.

25th January: - ‘Handwriting competition’          

‘Handwriting competition’ was held for the students of Std. V to VIII by Linc Pen Company. The competition was basically held to improve students’ handwriting as it is necessary part of education.

15th February: - Spell Linc Competition

The Spell Linc Competition was held at IES, 3 students participated for the same, and the competition was based on word formation, anagrams, and crosswords. Around 50 students have participated.

23rd February:- ‘Poster Making’ and ‘Essay Writing competition’

Fire Brigade Services had organized ‘Poster Making’ and ‘Essay Writing competition’ for the students of Std VII and IX, the topic name was “FIREMAN” and “FIRESAFETY”. From this, six best essays and posters were chosen. The competition was held for all South Mumbai schools.

23rd July – The Little Literati!

The school has organized ‘THE LITTLE LITERATI” competition in the school auditorium. There were two groups senior group i.e. from VIII-X and junior group from Std V-VII .The competition was based on two categories one was ‘Newspaper Reading’ and other was ‘Elocution Competition’. And for the senior group it was ‘Play Reading’ and ‘Elocution Competition’. It was a very tough neck to neck competition. Even the judges found it difficult to judge the contestants.

21st September- Debate Competition

Debate Competition was held in our school and the topic was “Does Social Networking Help in Improving Social Interaction”. Each group had three speakers to put their views forward. Both the teams spoke about the pros and cons of the topic respectively. The students really enjoyed the competition

21st Sept :- Saboo Siddik Institute had organized an enviornment programme titled as “Oh!Green”  students of Std IX and X had participated in the essay writing competition and won the 1st and the 2nd prize  for the same.

22nd Nov :- Workshop on Journalism

A workshop was conducted by British Council on BBC School report news.Two students along with one of the teachers had attended the programme . The workshop helped the students in making their own news or report.

30th June Inter Anjuman Essay Writing Competition For Teachers.

Inter Anjuman Essay Writing Competition For Teachers were held in Begum Sharifa Kalsekar School. The three top scoring teachers from each school participated in this competition The categories were Under Graduates,Graduates,and Post Graduates. The topic was ‘Role of a Teacher In 21st Century’. Two of our teachers won the Prize. Miss Fehmin won the second prize from Under Graduates category and Miss Ayesha won the 2ND Prize from Post Graduate category.

Spell Bee Competition

It is a matter of great pride as two of our students, Ansari Shariah Mohammed Yusuf of STD IX and Ansari Quba Mohammed Yusuf of STD VI have been Qualified for ‘Mars International Spell Bee 2011-2012 Inter-school Oral and State Written Competition’. The competition for category V was held on 8th July 2012 i.e. Sunday at Pinnacle High International School, Malad and for Category IV on 21st July 2012 at the same venue.

4th August Inter Anjuman Elocution Competition

Inter Anjuman Elocution competition was held at C.S.T Anjuman wherein some students from our school had taken part. There were two categories junior and senior. The topic for junior group was ‘I too have a dream’. And Khan Amina Arif from STD VIII won 1st Prize. And from senior group Ansari Humda Anwar won the 1st Prize for the topic ‘Universe Is Colorless without Women’.  And Qureshi Javeria Athar Salim won the 2nd Prize for the topic ‘Save Water Save Life ’.

11th September Inter Anjuman Poetry Recitation and Nazm Khawni.

Inter Anjuman Poetry Recitation and Nazm Khawni was organized in our School wherein the students from all over Anjuman had taken part in their Respective category. Urdu medium schools had Nazm Khawni and English Medium School had Poem Recitation competition. There were two groups Group I and Group II and each group had two participants of every school. Our Four students had participated in Poem Recitation competition and all of them have won in both the categories. In Group I 1ST Prize secured by Shaikh Sakina from Std V and 2nd Prize was honored to Shaikh Umama Kalim from Std VI and in Group II 1st Prize received by Khan Amina Arif of Std VII and 2nd Prize was honored to Siddique Naveda of Std VIII.

4th October Inter Anjuman Elocution competition:-

Elocution competition was held at C.S.T Anjuman School. All Anjuman-I-Islam’s Group of schools had participated in this competition. Six of our students participated in this competition and four of our students won prizes in their respective groups. From group I Shaikh Sakina from Std V secured the 1st Prize. From group II,Khan Amina Arif from Std VII also received 1st Prize and from group III Ansari Humda Anwar from Std X secured the 1st Prize and Qureshi Juveria Athar from Std IX secured the 2nd Prize respectively.

Spell linc competition

It is proud to inform that three of our students i.e.Qureshi Javeria Athar and Ansar Shariah of Std IX A and Khan Amina Arif of Std VII A have reached the grand finale of Spell Linc Competition which is going to be held on 19 Dec,2012.

Elocution Competition

Elocution Competition wherein the students expresses their views on the given topic. It helps the student to develop confidence, build vocabulory, language skill and be systematic in presentation.

 

English Dramatization

Dramatization on one of play given in English text book was done by the group of students. The main aim was to develop language skills, acting skill and self confidence among the students.

Poetry recitation Comptition

Poetry Recitation is one of the part of LITTLE LITERATI PROGRAMME wherein the students recite the poem apart from the text with poetic diction, voice modulation and in rythymic manner. The student learn to recite the poem and express it.

                                 

   Understanding Pronunciation

   Introduction

1.      English is a language of International communication.

2.      It deals with intelligibility, comprehensibility, interpretability, while the speaker produces sound patterns for the understanding of the listener.

3.      Clear pronunciation is extremely essential in spoken communication.

Pronunciation Overview

Pronunciation refers to the phonology of the language-or the meaningful perception and production of the sounds of that language and how they impact the listener. It includes various features that make up the production of sounds.

Essential factors affecting the learning of Pronunciation

  1. Accent: An accent is the cumulative auditory effect.
  2. Stress Intonation: Stress intonation and rhythm deals with research and teaching focus on vocal effects, sound and intonations.
  3. Motivation and exposure: Motivation and exposure is extremely important for learning proper pronunciation. Learners need a considerable drilling and repetition because practice makes the learning perfect.
  4. Conversation: Teachers can help their children with new and innovative strategies to initiate and maintain conversation.
  5. Expert Guidance: Expert guidance is the proper training and help provided to the learner
  6. Conclusion: Pronunciation can be one of the most difficult parts for a language learner. It can be concluded with careful preparations and integration.

Evaluation of the Students

  1. Learners had problems in reading with proper pronunciation. They were unaware about the important features of pronunciation sounds of vowels and consonants, phonology, linking words, stress intonation patterns and pitch.
  2. Mispronunciation of words was very frequent including errors in articulation and intonations.

Learners Observation:

  1. Helps in identifying the problems in the learners.
  2. Noting the learner’s responses.
  3. Deciding on the activity according to the knowledge and awareness of the learner’s.
