8th March: WOMEN’S DAY Celebration

If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman”.

Women's Dayis celebrated throughout the globe on 8th March every year. Celebrating Women's Dayis an opportunity to appreciate the remarkable contribution of women to our society.Awomanis much more than these words.

The day is marked around the world with arts performances, talks, rallies, networking events, conferences and marches.

It is celebrated to felicitate women and their achievements. Women have come a long way in their struggle for equality, but there is still a long distance to cover. This year, the theme for Women's Day is 'Be Bold for Change' to encourage women to be bolder, stronger and more powerful in all spheres of life.

Over the decades, the objective ofWomen’s Day Celebrationhas evolved and embraced culture and ethnicity to emerge as a celebration of appreciation, respect and love towards women. Women’s Day is also celebrated in schools nowadays and also forms an integral part of the curriculum to spread the awareness of women empowerment, their roles and achievements.

A woman in herself is a full circle and complete within herself she has inside her the potency to fight for whatever is right! Her strength!

It is an important occasion for all of us to pause for a moment to reflect on ourselves, to appreciate how much has been done and what more needs to be done in the field of gender equality. Moreover, it is the day to acknowledge all the men and women in the world for making this world a better place for everyone to live in.

Dedicated to the spirit of womanhood, this day was celebrated in Anjuman I Islam’s Begum Sharifa Kalsekar Girls’ High School with full zest and enthusiasm.

The day’s programme started with an assembly. The significance of the day was highlighted by giving a speech on the importance of women in the society.

Keeping in mind the theme for international women’s day, poster making competition was organized for the students. Best three posters were selected an awarded with appreciation certificates.

Students of std 8 wrote essays. The topic given to them was, ‘My Favourite Women Role Model’ they came up with beautiful essays on different women personalities such as Malala Yousuf, Mother Teresa, Rani Laxmibai and so on.

A rally was organized by our students and teachers to mark International Women's Day. In a unique gesture, most of the participants used the occasion to send out their messages to the society, with women's empowerment as the most common theme.

The teachers and the students were optimistic that the program made a great impact on them in making them understand the fact that women and men are equal beings, deserve the same respect, opportunities and are also equally responsible for building a better future.
