Kids for Tigers Interschool Tiger Fest 2010-11:

After a successful Kids for Tigers’ Parade on Marine Drive, our school participated in the 2010-11 inter-school ‘Kids for Tigers’ fest held at Maharashtra Nature Park, near Dharavi Bus Depot on Friday January 28, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The fest  provided an opportunity for students and teachers to participate in a host of creative activities and competitions, interact with naturalists, visit NGO stalls and play nature games. Students from our school participated in the activities and competitions listed below:

A] Information and Game Stalls

Each school was allotted one stall of dimension 10 x 8 feet to display art work, nature-games and project.

Theme for ALL stalls: Tiger = Forest = Water = Us! We used our creativity to show this umbilical connection between nature and our survival.

Nature games: Our school designed its own nature game at our stall. One student explained the game to visitors and judges at any given point of time.

B] Environment project

Theme: How green is your life? Through this project the students tried to show how we should adjust our lifestyle to reduce our carbon footprint.  The project/model was displayed throughout the fest on the desk provided in each stall. Only reused, recycled and biodegradable material was used for the project. Projects were assessed based on the innovative ideas used to depict the theme, presentation and materials used. Amongst some of the topmost schools of Mumbai we won the third prize for the same.

C] Stage competitions

Save Our Tigers Advertisement

Theme: I’m your national animal, your pride! Students put themselves in the shoes of a tiger and presented an Ad campaign to save themselves!

Quiz Competition

Theme: Wild India. Questions for the quiz were based on wildlife, conservation and climate change. In the first session, each team was given a set of multiple choice questions to be answered within 30 minutes.

Puppet show competition

Theme: A day in an Indian jungle. Students had to tell a tale of a day in an Indian jungle through puppets. Our students used their creativity to make puppets from old, reused and recycled materials.

D] Activity-based competitions

Cloth bag painting competition

Theme: Paint me green. What better way to spread awareness about climate change than a cloth bag that one can carry everyday? Bags are a great way to talk about issues that we care for – people can read the message and if it's a well-made bag, they may be encouraged to learn more about the problem. Going green is the way ahead. Students  used vibrant hues of green to make their  very own campaign bag!

Face painting competition

Theme: Creepy – crawlies.Students were asked to paint anything from bees to butterflies and snakes to frogs. Only organic vegetable and natural water based colours were used.

Best from waste competition

Theme: Best from waste. Students used their creativity and ‘junk’ to create something useful!
