Std VII

Unit 1] Entering the teen’s years: The challenge ahead.

Unit 2A] Building self confidence and communication skills.

Unit 5] Strengthening family relationship

Activities conducted from the book- Std VII:

Activity 1: Ground rules

The teacher asked the students to make ground rules for their own class. The students set the rules like, they will not come out of their places, they will talk softly with their friends and teachers, they will submit the assignment on time etc. The teacher wrote the rules on the chart paper, cut the strips and stuck it on the wall. The students enjoyed the activity and are following the rules as they have made it themselves.

Activity 2: Interview

The students were asked to interview themselves and note down the questions on a sheet of paper. The students really enjoyed doing the activity as they got an opportunity to speak about themselves to their friends. The students were very excited to take each other’s interview. With this their communication skills also improved and the students got an idea of an interview as well.

Activity 3: Skit

Adolescent children grow physically as well as emotionally. The students are sometimes negative about change within themselves. They feel awkward with their growing body. One of the unit deals with this topic. There is a story between a brother and a sister. The sister reaches her adolescence and her clothes do not fit her anymore. With a little conversation the brother explains her and makes her feel comfortable about herself. This story was enacted by the students in the class. They enacted with enthusiasm and dialogues. With this story, the message given in it was very clear to the students. The students really enjoyed themselves in the class.

Activity4: Introspect

Students were asked to write a moment of their life when they were happy and once when they were sad. Students came up and shared their experience and a general discussion with the entire class was held.

Activity 5: Campaign

“Excellence in education” campaign was held wherein posters were displayed on the bulletin board to encourage the students and their parents to strive to get good grades and motivate their children for further education in life.

Activity 6 Visit:

The students visited the home for the aged as a part of the service learning program they spend some time there and spoke to the old ladies there They also gave them handmade gifts as a token of love to show appreciation towards them. It sensitized them deeply and they realized the importance of elderly people in one’s family.

 

Activities conducted from the book- Std VIII:

Activity 1] Interview a family member:-

Here the students interviewed their family members one at a time and developed a list of good things about their family. Thus the  students  by doing this activity  understood what family members like about their family and the strengths  and they got to know more about their family values and family members’ good aspects and sometimes negative aspects also.

Activity2] Displayed posters with messages about friendship around school:

Here the students fostered a spirit of friendship in each other and it also helped them to instill the virtue of making good friends. These posters were displayed on the corridors of the school.

Activity3] Gifted a family member  

The students gave flowers and cards to their family members on their birthdays and anniversaries which helped the family to grow stronger and to show appreciation towards their loved ones. The students enjoyed this activity a lot as it helped them to develop stronger family ties.

Activity4] Skit, poems, and project book

Here the students performed a skit on friendship. The story was about how one’s friend gets into a bad company and how the other friends try to help her out. Here the students enacted in front of the class and thus the class also understood with whom they should be friends with. The students also recited some poems based on this topic.

Activity5] Interview

Students also spoke to those people who smoke, consume pan and chew tobacco and they also spoke about the ill effects.

Students interview their family members and asked how they have become successful person in their lives.

Activity6] Displayed posters with messages on drug use in school

 Here the students were asked to make posters on their views about drugs. These posters were displayed in the school campus so that the other students see and understand and spread the message that drug use affects their own society. They also learn that specific drug use affects their own body as well as their brain.

Activity7] Skit, newspaper articles , and project book

Small skits were presented in the class on how one should practice ways to avoid situations where drugs are present and ways to resist when someone offers drugs.

Some students made projects on their role models and later a discussion was made on why they have selected them as their role models.

Students also read news paper articles of how drugs like tobacco and alcohol, marijuana can ruin ones family, can cause accident and affect ones behavior.

Parents’  Meetings

1st meeting : 25th June 2011-

Welcomed the parents and briefed them about the S.F.A. program. Some activities were carried out with the parents. The parents were encouraged to participate in the activities. They also shared their experiences they had of the adolescents. The parents liked to talk about their past experiences as well. The parents really felt the need of such a program in the school according to the fast pacing world.

2nd meeting : 28th September 2011 –

Welcomed the parents and reviewed the previous meeting. The activities such as peeling the potatoes using different tools were carried on. The response of the parents was better than the previous meeting. Skit by students on communication between parents and children was done by 7A students. Small poem was read by the students of 8A. The parents discussed about the problems faced by the students in their teens. The program was concluded with a short speech by the teachers. The parents were also informed about the next 2 meetings that will be held in the second term.

3rd meeting : 16thDecember 2011-

Welcomed the parents and reviewed the previous meeting. Some activities were carried out with the parents. The parents were encouraged to participate in the activities. Feedback form was given to the parents to help us gain an insight in the implementation of the program and how to make it more successful.
