JUNE

Entering Adolescence

A short description on Adolescence was the first activity done in the class. Here individual expression of thoughts and their views were expressed by each and every student. The students wrote a short paragraph on their thoughts and feelings about entering early Adolescences. The students enjoyed this activity a lot and discussed their experiences as they have now entered the adolescence period.

Interview with their own partners

The students interviewed their partners about their favorite things and ambitions in life .Students were able to express their likes and dislikes.

JULY

Normal changes in adolescence

The tips for the journey in getting along with adults were discussed in the class. Here different situations were given and later discussed in which the students showed their confidence and responsibility. Through this activity they learned to become more polite with the teachers, friends and elders.

AUGUST

Rating oneself for self confidence

Steps for good discussion- identify, think, predict, choose, do, and rethink this activity was done where in the students had to think what type of personality they possess. Those students who were introvert, nervous were able to speak and they became more self confident and they can now deal with their emotions in a very balanced manner.

SEPTEMBER

How to make a school a positive place for living

The students were asked to make posters and decorate the bulletin boards, beautify the school, clean up camp, plant saplings, and sponsor programs for senior citizens. Students are able to communicate better through this program. They are taking the academics seriously and also participating in other activities.

OCTOBER

3 ways to improve self confidence.

Here the students developed and recognised their skills and abilities, and their responsibility thus respected themselves and others.

Thus through this activity the students started discussing and sharing their problems with their teachers and friends. The students started being more responsible towards their duties that were allotted towards their family, school and community as a whole.

1. The Art of Listening-3 main keys to good listening

2. Here the students had to attend to the speaker and recognise the speaker’s point of view. The students took time to ask and comment on various issues.

3. Through this activity the students identified the things they would like to learn, how and why they would like to do.

NOVEMBER

How would you rate yourself (self confidence)

The students started to rate themselves for self confidence on a scale of one to ten. The students were asked to fill a questionnaire wherein they rated their self confidence which is the most importance in today’s society.

Complete the self-inventory by showing 3 ways to show for our self and others also known as the three legged stool activity. Through this activity there was a change in attitude towards themselves, friends and family members

DECEMBER

Good Decision activity

How do things turn out if one makes Good Decisions? Through this activity students discussed with their family members on what basis have they taken a decision to lead a good life with moral values. The students thus understood they should always ask their elders in whatever decision they have to take.

JANUARY

Let’s share time together

Students were asked to write a moment of their life when they were happy and once when they were sad. Students came up and shared their experience and a general discussion with the entire class was held.

FEBRUARY

Campaign

“Excellence in education” campaign was held wherein posters were displayed on the bulletin board to encourage the students and their parents to strive to get good grades and motivate their children for further education in life.

JUNE

Blindfolded Obstacle Course

This game teaches both trust and listening. Children are paired in groups of two: one plays the guide, the other the blindfolded child. Once groups are established, the groups face off in a race against each other though an obstacle course. The blindfolded child must navigate the course by following the commands of his partner. The guide yells commands like, "Left," "Right" or "Straight," along with warning the blind partner about upcoming obstacles. Once the first blindfolded child has reached the end of the obstacle course, he switches positions with the guide and then guides his friend back over the course. The first team to complete a two-way journey wins. Thus this game developed a sense of responsibility, caring and friendship amongst them.

JULY

The Human Knot

This game involves the cooperation of the entire group. All the members of the game stand in a circle and grab the hand of someone in the circle, but it cannot be the person to their right or left. Once everyone has grabbed hands, they must untangle themselves without letting go of their companion's hands. The participants must communicate and plan how they are going to break the knot.

I'm Your Friend

This game encourages children to learn to recognize their friend's voices. One child is chosen to be "it." The child who is "it" sits in front of the rest of the children, her eyes closed. One of the children in the group quietly walks up behind the chosen child and says, "I'm your friend," and then returns to his original seat. The child who is "it" must then guess who it was. It's important that the children who are not "it" do not trade places and that they speak in their normal voices, to assure a fair game. The students enjoyed this game a lot.

AUGUST

Interview a family member

Here the students interviewed their family members one at a time and developed a list of good things about their family. Thus the  students  by doing this    activity  understood what family members like about their family and the strengths and they got to know more about their family values and family members’ good aspects and       sometimes negative aspects also.

SEPTEMBER

Displayed posters with messages about friendship around school

Here the students fostered a spirit of friendship in each other and it also helped them to instill the virtue of making good friends. These posters were displayed on the corridors of the school.

OCTOBER

Strengthening family relationships.

To find more about family history here the students interviewed their family members like uncles, aunts and their grandparents on their past and thus developed a positive attitude among themselves. Thus the students got to know more about their loved ones their likes and their dislikes, the way they were brought up by their parents, their aim in life which developed a bond with them.

Gifteda familymember  

The students gave flowers and cards to their family members on their birthdays and anniversaries which helped the family to grow stronger and to show appreciation towards their loved ones. The students enjoyed this activity a lot as it helped them to develop stronger family ties.Group projects like making posters, skits, poems, comic strips on topic like love towards their family members developed a feeling of love and likeness towards their relatives.

NOVEMBER

12 rules for getting along with the parents.

Here the students were explained the importance of parents in their life, why they should always listen to their parents who are always supportive to their children no matter how much hard work they have to do, they will always keep their children happy and will always satisfy their needs. Thus the students understood how to behave with their parents which helped them to strengthened family relationship.

DECEMBER

Adolescence is a time of new experiences and new opportunities. Some of these opportunities may involve pressure to use drugs. Following were the activities about this drug were done to create awareness in the class.

Getting started

Here the teacher introduced the topic about the different drugs like alcohol, marijuana and tobacco which can affect a young person’s life. The teacher asks the students to bring newspaper or magazine articles on the topic related to tobacco. Each student then the following week brings the article. They read and discuss in the class and prepare a chart to create awareness in the school about the ill effects of using tobacco.

Streetplays, posters and project

Streetplays, posters and projects  pertaining to alcoholism was given where in the students made individual  as well as group project on why their loved one have started to indulge into alcholism and they were  also educated  them  about the ill effect of consuming it.

1. In the class plays pertaining to this topic was done in order to create awareness among the students. Slogans and posters were made in order to create awareness among other children’s.

Class survey-What do you think?

Here the teacher ask the student to do a survey by completing the table and writing the response in the form of yes, no and not sure answers.e.g.) middle school children don’t smoke cigarette.e.g.) school children who smoke consider themselves addicted and are unable to quit.

The teacher later asks the student to evaluate their table and discuss how one can stand up to the pressure to use drugs, handle stress and make good decisions different situation.

 The students were asked to make posters on their views about drugs. These posters were displayed in the school campus so that the other students see and understand and spread the message that drug use affects their own society. They also learn that specific drug use affects their own body as well as their brain.

JANUARY

How young people get hooked

The teacher asks the students to interview their family members on how they got hooked to this drug. Some of the response the student they got after they interview their family member that they felt better or they think it is cool or the will look older or it helps them to relax. The teacher explains that the people who generally use them are affected by disease like cancer, kidney failure and later usually end up with a lot of regrets.

FEBRUARY

Small skits were presented in the class on how one should practice ways to avoid situations where drugs are present and ways to resist when someone offers drugs.

Thus one should make healthy choice and stay away from this drug.
